Drawn from the Cathedral of Kazan icon in Lebedyan, Lipetsk Region (was built in 1836).
I thought the modeling of this cathedral is impossible because I can’t measure the height of the belltower and many other things I couldn't reach — even using a laser distance meter. But fSpy software solved this issue. I thought using fSpy will allow creating this render in a couple of hours, but, as it usually happens, the work proved more difficult and long. Then I’ve decided to make an interior in addition to the exterior and finally, this work took decades of hours.
The outer part is pretty close to the original. The interior is much more conventional, although I used the interior of the real cathedral as a reference.
For the first time, I used the Cryptomatte for post-processing here.
The rendering took about a week – all images were rendered in 4K, some of them I had to rerender according to some reasons. Every image took from 6 to 10 hours to be rendered.
